These paintings are all based on found graffiti tags that I have documented as I move through the city. A hurried scrawl, made in seconds on a wall, becomes a trace I fixate on reconstructing; slowing down time, I am a happy copyist, meticulously transcribing someone else's mark into oil paint. Questions of cropping and scaling are attuned to allow the pedestrian tag to slip into the vernacular of gestural painting and its varied histories.

A separate index of site photographs with GPS coordinates documents the geographical source of each painting, providing an anchor back to the city itself.
